Ghana

Established in 2012 in Fielmuo in the Upper West Region of Ghana, Vibrant Village Ghana works to reduce poverty, promote wellbeing and enhance the resilience of vulnerable populations. Currently our programs serve over 2,000 households and nearly 21,000 individuals.

In 2018, the Vibrant Village Ghana team conducted an extensive community needs assessment and developed a three-year, multi-sectoral program to support 34 communities in Sissala West and Lambussie Districts.

Program Description

Vibrant Village Ghana implements an integrated program for poverty reduction and social transformation that includes three core components:

  • Livelihoods, Food Security, and Empowerment of Women - We work to improve soil health and increase yields for small scale farmers using sustainable agricultural practices. We also work to increase income generating opportunities for community members (especially women) and promote gender equality using VSLAs, business training, and gender role models.
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - We work to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities through constructing boreholes and latrines using the Community Led Total Sanitation approach. We also work to build the capacity of committees to manage infrastructure, and we provide access to spare parts in hard to reach communities.
  • Education and Child Protection - We work to protect children against gender-based violence in schools by increasing awareness and advocacy for girls, strengthening support systems and reporting mechanisms, and improving school infrastructure to promote effective teaching and learning.
